British Columbia Bear Hunt

jimbcbear

I went to Southern British Columbia with A/Z mule deerOutfitters on an adventure of a life time. It was a spot and stalk archery black bear hunt in the wilds of the Purcell Mountains. Brent Dubois runs a top notch operation and he is a third generation outfitter. They do stuff the old fashion way which means all the hunts are done completely by horse back. We would start early by packing the horses with our gear for the 25 mile trail ride in. This road less area is only accessible by horse back. After a 7 hour ride in which included numerous river crossings and 3 foot snow drifts we finally made it to the main cabins. The set up was 5 star and we were soon glassing the huge avalanche chutes looking for black bears. Heavy winter snow and a late spring made traveling difficult. The horses were very advanced and experienced with the travel and made mule deerthe daily rides easy. After several hours of glassing we finally spotted a fair size bear in a position for a good stalk. With camera man in tow I headed up the steep slide in hopes of ambushing the roaming bear. With the help of hand signals from the guides below I spotted the bear. We were able to get within 40 yards of the boar and after a well placed shot the bear was down in the dark timber.

If you are looking for a great archery or rifle hunt for black bear, grizzly, elk, deer, moose or mountain goat give Brent Dubois a call. His outfit will give you not only a great hunt but an experience you will remember for a lifetime.
