My Montana turkey opener started with cold wet conditions again this year. I headed out to the same place where I took my bird in 2010. I set up the blind and decoys at first light and began to call softly. The morning was chilly and the wind was blowing pretty hard. I could hear birds answer me off in the distance so I kept at it. An hour later I could see a number of mature birds with several jakes and hens headed my way. A close 8 yard shot in the decoy spread resulted in my first opening day Merriams.
